This week on Cruising the Classics we return to something we’ve avoided for quite a while and thaat is the short story. Short fiction was such a part of American literature and with All Hallow’s Eve rapidly approaching, along with my thoughts of butternut squash soup, hot cider and those fun sized candies though the weather in Southern California has not quite caught up with my thoughts one thing that has is the frightening suspenseful story. So pour some cider and prepare for Escape from January 17 1948 and Leiningen Versus the Ants. After we’ve left the heat of the Amazon we’ll heaad to a nameless moor and my favorite horror story of all time The Fall of the House of usher again Escape this time from October 22 1947 I certainly hope we don’t scaare you and that you’ll drop in for some frightful fiction. During Radio’s Golden era, cross promotions were not uncommon. In fact they happened quite regularly.
On January 17, 1948, the Life of Riley featured a program which collectors have entitled, The Telephone Is Rationed. During this time, Truth or Consequences was running a contest to seek the identity of The Walking Man”. So, Ralph Edwards appeared on The Life of Riley” show which proceeded “Truth Or Consequences to plug his show.
And Riley also ran to the next studio to appear on Ralph Edwards’s show.
We’ll hear that full hour from January 17, 1948 on the next edition of Radio Out of the Past Thursday evening.
